Around the World in 80 Minutes

This program invites the listener on a journey around the world, blending global folk traditions with Western classical repertoire. The program draws on a wide variety of sources, both ancient and contemporary, and celebrates the richness and diversity of humanity’s most cherished musical heritage.
From the African roots of Mitochondrial Eve, to the Ancient Greek Epitaph of Sikilos, through Martin Luther’s famous hymn A Mighty Fortress Is Our God, and Chopin’s Maiden’s Wish from his Polish Songs Op. 74, these works lead on a worldwide and soulful exploration of our shared cultural identity - connecting places and generations, transcending age, origin and status.
The list of traditional songs and dances from around the world is completed by an original composition dedicated to us, inspired by a beautiful vocal piece by the 15th-century French composer Gilles Binchois.
The program also features modern works by E. Granados, E. Nazareth, A. Ramírez, and A. Khachaturian.
